Your Age is Not a Good Excuse.

One of the biggest mistakes we can make as we get older is believing that our best days are behind us or that moving and learning have an expiration date.

A few years ago, I set up a booth at a Christmas bazaar to get some exposure for the gym.  I will never forget when an older female (probably in her 70s) walked by and dismissed my attempt to talk to her about our Legends class, claiming “I am way too old for that.”

I smiled politely and said “let me know if you change your mind. ” What I really wanted to do was shake her and say “you are way too old not to!”

As we age, we start to tell ourselves that we’re too old to learn something new or too far past our prime to challenge ourselves physically. Little by little, we settle into routines, avoid discomfort, and stop pushing our boundaries.

But here’s the problem: when we stop challenging ourselves, we risk losing the very things that help keep us healthy, capable, and independent.

Our bodies need movement and physical challenges to maintain strength, mobility, and balance. Our brains benefit from learning, curiosity, and solving new problems. And our overall well-being is supported by staying socially connected and having a reason to keep showing up.

This is one of the reasons I believe in CrossFit. It’s not just about hitting personal records. And it isn’t to prove you're young.  It’s about continuing to discover what you’re capable of, even when you’re no longer 25.

Because longevity isn't just about adding years to your life.  It’s about adding LIFE to your years.

Keep moving. Keep learning. Keep challenging yourself.
